[ ROMA REFLECTION ]
| This is the tale of my obsession with Roloff Beny. His photographs may appear dated now, but his shelf of beautifully published photography books are a wonderful legacy. He was born in Canada and lived in Rome until his untimely death in 1985 in a villa with a spectacular view of the Tiber River. In 2005, I foraged in used bookstores until I owned his entire ouvre, including "Odyssey," "In Italy," "Persia," "Japan In Color," and "In the Time of Gods." Roloff shot medium-format black-and-white and transparencies to create a gallery full of genuinely inspired travel photographs. My trip to Rome in the winter of 2005 was a learning adventure, where I began to see 'place' through a mentor's eyes.
